The Frank and Olive Gilman Foundation has been giving scholarships to graduating upper valley high school seniors for 15 years. In 1983 we awarded $103,000 to 51 recipients from three schools. We continue to grow and give scholarships every year, recently awarding $1,250,000 to 275 recipients from 21 VT & NH schools in 2008. The growth in assets and scholarships came from personal contributions during Mr. & Mrs. Gilman’s lifetime and their estates at their passing. The Gilman’s didn’t have formal education beyond high school, but were avid readers. They recognized the importance of education in everyone’s lives. Education is important to the individuals earning power, to business seeking skilled workers and to developing our business and community leaders. Seeking these goals we are willing to invest in you if you (1) graduate from one of our named schools, (2) attend an accredited school and (3) be one of those best qualified applicants identified in your year group. Our recipients are lucky to live and graduate from an upper valley school. Your selection recognizes your effort, accomplishments and ambition to succeed. Max out the potential of theses scholarships to advance yourselves and continue to make your parents, your community and yourselves proud For more information; Vermont high school graduates should contact Vermont Student Assistance Corp.
